ACTIVITIES DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Our Team at La Torre Elementary Batch 1978 actively participates in many community-directed efforts to mitigate the effects of Covid-19 Pandemic. At the same time, we promote personal health and well-being which is equally important, especially during prolonged quarantine and lockdown.  We found ways to keep doing what we love, which includes keeping in touch with our families, friends and our classmates around the world.

We continue to work on projects to help the community cope with the "New Normal" during the recovery period. It will be  a slow and laborious process, but we will all get through this. Learn more about what we do to mitigate the impact of Covid-19 and promote positive change.

SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY

Our Lead Team and Members at La Torre Elementary Batch 1978 stepped up to meet the challenges of the Covid-19 Pandemic to provide reliable information and services to our community. Whether working at the front lines - public health and community response, or providing behind-the-scene assistance in the preparation and distribution of care packages to the community, our volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure our community receives efficient and timely service in this time of need.

Providing Direct Assistance to the Regional Medical Health System

The most pressing issue for all countries and governments during the Covid-19 Pandemic is the capacity of their Public Health Systems to effectively handle cases. Allocation of critical resources have to be prioritised.  Our Lead Team and Members at La Torre Elementary Batch 1978  were in the forefront of the Public Health System in the region, providing critical information and services, including fabrication of home-made PPE's like masks and face shields. We are involved in many activities, big or small, to ensure our community receives the proper care in a timely manner .

PERSONAL HEALTH & WELL-BEING

To be able to do our work in the community, we have an obligation to take care of our personal health & well-being, for ourselves, our family and the people we serve. Proper hygiene, self-monitoring, physical distancing and wearing mask in public when practiced  together as a whole, have been proven by scientific studies to be effective in reducing the incidence of Covid-19 transmission.

PHYSICAL DISTANCING  &
WEARING MASK IN PUBLIC

Covid-19h.jpg

Wearing mask in public one measure to help effectively slow down the spread of Covid-19 virus. Mitigation measures should start with ourselves. It is not easy or convenient, but we have to think about the greater good and do our part - sometimes, it is just a matter of changing our attitudes and old habits.

FOOD FOR THE SOUL

Covid-19i.jpg

While recognising the benefit of healthy food especially during this time, it is equally important to be surrounded by the reassuring smells and tastes of our childhood. Comfort food or food for the soul, keeps anxiety at bay, and offers a sense of peace and well-being. Happy thoughts of bygone days in our native La Torre come rushing in with the smell of "tupig" roasting in our kitchens in foreign lands, we now call our homes.

THE OUTDOORS AND EXERCISE

Covid-19k.jpg

Outdoor activities like hiking, are important in keeping fit and staying healthy. During Covid-19 Pandemic, physical distancing should be observed at all times when exercising outdoors. We should all do our part to prevent the further spread of the Covid-19 virus and stop the pandemic.

HEALTHY FOOD AND OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

It is important to nourish both body and spirit especially during these difficult times. We prepare our favourite local dishes from the Philippines together with the sumptuous dishes in our adopted countries. We enjoy all these with a drink or two and share these on social media with family and friends - just like having an online party.

FOCUSING ON WHAT MATTERS MOST

During the Covid-19 Pandemic, many countries implemented different levels of community quarantine and lockdown measures. Schools were closed and online classes at all levels became the new norm of learning. Work-from-home became the default mode for jobs. Families in many parts of the world are basically isolated from the rest of their communities, venturing out only to purchase essentials and for limited outdoor activities. Family dinners, watching TV and doing things together became the new normal. Social media made it possible to keep in touch with grandparents and other relatives, as well as with friends and old classmates, scattered all around the world. We found ways of doing what we love best, and what matters most during this pandemic.
